Duron & Motherboard

Would it be fair to say that any athlon MB would work for a Duron processor? Or how can I tell which ones match with each other? Also, anyway I can tell if I have an ATX case?
I am trying to upgrade a CTX brand computer that currently has a k6-2 450 in it.

Thanks

Hi bigdog!
If you have a K6-II 450, its quite possible that you have a Baby AT Board. If you find all the connectors (keyboard, mouse, the parallel and serial ports on the board itself) along the left edge of your case backpanel instead of on the brackets one below the other its a ATX cabinet.

If you are planning to upgrade to a Duron, you will need a Socket A motherboard. All Thunderbird Athlons Socket A versions will go into a Duron board, but some athlons are Slot A, that is they are mounted in a different manner.

I would say you go for a Socket A Duron, that will be upgradable to Athlon Thunderbird 1.2 GHz right now, and maybe 1.6-1.7 GHz sometime later next year!
And choose a good board for it, like the Asus A7V or MSI K7T.
Regds.
