ABiT KT7-RAID and slow booting

Hello.... I recently setup a new system for a friend and everything is OK except that it takes forever to boot. Once it gets to the HPT370 bios screen and is searching for the drives it takes about a minute to see the 2 Western Digital 30GB ATA-100 drives.. (model WD300BBRTL).... after that is also seems to take a while at the verifying DMI data prompt.... Any ideas what is wrong here or is that how long it will take to boot up in a RAID configuration? This is my first time setting up an AMD system so maybe I have some settings wrong.

I have the 3 boot device options set to Ultra ATA-100/RAID as it said to do in the manual.

Thanks,
T

I actually posted a similar article last week. My friend's new system has the same issue. One response said to make sure you have the drives jumpered appropriately for single drive or cable select. The drives should be on separate ribbons for RAID 0 which means they should be set to single drive. My friend hasn't tried it out yet, so I am not sure if this will help, but it is something to try.

You could also check out the KT7 FAQ, if you haven't yet at:

Make sure you have the latest bios and make sure your jumpers are set correctly on the drives. I have an Abit KT7_raid and it works great, recognizes the drives in 2 seconds and boots fast. Make sure you have the latest High-Point drivers and that they are installed correctly. You may have run the Add New Hardware application from the control panel so all the High-Point devices are found.

My A7V board on the other hand, does take longer to boot. It started happening after I added the Promise drivers - go figure.
