F1703 monitor blanking out

My wife and I both have HP computers with F1703 flat panel monitors. The
monitors will go blank without warning. The power light still says blue,
indicating it is NOT in power saving mode (yellor / amber is power saving).

Turning the monitor off and on helps sometimes, but it may go right back out
in 5 seconds. Unplugging the power from the monitor then plugging it back
in does the trick. The monitors will do this about 2 times a day, more if
used more.

What is wrong? It was just happening to one monitor, now both of them.
They are about 11 months old.
