Has anybody ever gotten over 5.9 for their hard disk score with a mechanical drive (not SSD)? I've read about people scoring higher with Samsung Spinpoint F4 but I have never actually seen it.

Even with two Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB in a raid 0 (short stroked) I was still not able to break the 5.9 barrier.

Edit:

It's rare to get over a 5.9 if you have a mechanical drive. I wouldn't worry about it though, as the WEI isn't exactly the best precise indicator of performance. In your case, it doesn't take into account the actual performance of the RAID set up you have, etc...

I also get a 5.9 Hard drive score with my 3 yr old WD Blue 250GB...
Don't rely on WE1. Not precise.

I get a 7.5 with a Seagte ST375052 8AS SATA drive. Came with the HP I bought and I've not upgraded the drive... To be honest, I'm not sure how this is possible myself...

In my opinion, the Windows Experience Index apparently bias itself towards the best and fastest machines, which may not be necessary for all requirements. I wouldn't take the WEI too personally anymore. If you can do what you need to do on your computer then it's a job well done for the machine.

im sorry but your statement is the silliest i have seen on here for a while. maybe your meant something else but maybe you mean it.

of course WEI is baised toward the fastest hardware. that is the whole POINT of the process of rating components, to rate the fastest the best and the slowest the worst.
