DDR SDRAM and the KT266

Firstly, does anyone know the expected release date for ABit's KT266 board?
Also, according to the <A HREF="http://www6.tomshardware.com/mainboard/00q4/001030/index.html" target="_new">article</A>,
these are the (expected) prices for DDR SDRAM:

PC200 aka PC1600, 128 MB, CL3 100 MHz DDR $116
PC266 aka PC2100, 128 MB, CL2 133 MHz DDR $125

Why would anyone bother with PC1600, when PC266 is only $9 more?

Thirdly, would it be sensible to jump into the DDR race as soon as ABit releases the board?
It confuses me when they talk about new and old Duron/Athlons (in relation to DDR boards)...

Who knows. Maybe that price is not reflected by all manufacturers.

I'm planning to. But I may wait to see how VIAs chipset compares to ALi's and AMDs

Do you mean the 266FSB versions when you say the new ones? They are the same but just have a 266FSB instead of 200. For AMD760 boards you can have an old athlon with PC2100 ram but on the ALi you bust match the frequency of the RAM and CPU eg old socket Athlon with PC1600 and new ones with PC2100

I will wait till there are some reviews out.
Also, I will wait for the inevitable and often essential board revision 1.1 or 1.2.
This will probably put me into Q2 of 2001 but that will work out perfectly for me.

Depending on the demand for DDR RAM, those prices could go up/down dramatically.
