I have an ABIT BH6 mobo currently running a Celeron 400.
I want to put in a PIII 700 (or higher),but to do this I need to flash the BIOS to accept a chip >500MHz (I think!)
Here's the problem: I need to ID my mobo so that I don't download the wrong BIOS for it!
My mobo needs to be revision 1.1 for the correct upgrade, but after reading my manual & checking out the abit website, Iam still none the wiser.
Abit say to look at the no. on the white sticker on the last ISA slot. This is: BH6 AG125171
The boot-up screen shows: 03/11/1999 i440BX-W83977-2A69KAIEC-KG.
If anyone could help me ID what rev my mobo is, then I'd be very grateful. Also, can you recommend the fastest & most over-clockable chip I can get for this mobo?

Cheers,

Guy

The KG BIOS version that's indicated on the startup screen (03/11/1999 i440BX-W83977-2A69KAIEC-KG) is a BH6 ver.1.0 BIOS. Abit does not recommend Coppermine processors for this rev. although I know several people who are running them successfully. I am running a C533A @ 800Mhz on a BH6 rev.1.0

I read somewhere, that the fastest way to see if you have rev 1.0 or 1.1, is to check if the plastic in/around the connectors ( LPT, COM .... ) are different colors. Rev 1.0 are all black, where as the 1.1 are all different red, orange ...
If you have rev 1.0, as indicated by the BIOS ver, you should be sure to bye a 100 FSB CPU like an 800E, not an EB.
The reason is that 1.0 dont have the 1/4 PCI divider, and you will end up runnig an 800EB at 124, or worse, 112 Mhz FSB, witch gives you 6 * 124=744 or 6*112=672, with no chance for OC'ing.
I'm running a 700E in my rev 1.0 BH6 at 7*112=784, and I didnt flash my bios at first. It wasnt until I was locking for the 1/4 divider, witch isn't there :frown: :frown:
