"reset the mainboard cause' it doesn't work". Does this mean that the system
does not display anything when you power it up? Respond back please, with a
more specific and detailed description of the symptoms... Ben Myers

You do not need a mainboard driver to reset the computer. If the system CMOS
needs resetting, remove the C2032 3v Lithium battery from its socket and leave
it out overnight and try again.
The symptoms you describe sound more like a failure of the mainboard or the
memory or the on-board graphics controller. A hardware Power On Self Test
(POST) card is the best tool to determine cause of failure. Also, remove the
memory modules, clear the dust out of the chassis and reseat the memory modules
in their sockets.
The "computer fixer" does not sound like someone who is very experienced in the
business... Ben Myers

Hi thank you , look, i have got, the boot disc from the HP web page,
my machine model is VECTRA VLi8, so, the guy who is helping me ,
made a movement in the jumper, i see he moved the little switch
number 2 up , then put, the boot diskette, and the diskette begins to
make some whistles copying the bios, after that , we turn off the
cpu, then on again but with little switch number 2 again down...
then appeared the vectra logo in the screen , he entered in the
setup, and bingo! it worked very well , everything was rigth my
programs ,the sound ,the hour ... all.... but when we turned it off
again, and tried to turn on again, it didn't work,, so we had to
repeat the same operation of the boot diskette every time we want to
use the computer (it seems that the bios deletes when we turn the
cpu off off) ........but now, when the diskette is doing its work ,
three whistles sound from the machine . warning whistles i guess and
it keeps on repeating about every 10 seconds, .. i didn't excatly
know what does it mean....... .... well i have been working in this
way, but it's uncomfortable i'll try to see about the capacitors,
....thanks for that......... and .... i don't know if it has to see
anything with the problem but, i have noticed that the letters in the
screen are hard to read now, they are not like before, now they look
almost gray .....so .i hope u can help me ... well thanks for
answering guys , good luck,, see you.
