Call me a half-wit, but for the life of me I cannot get my BIOS to boot from the cd-rom with XP in it without it automatically loading windows xp which I have installed. I wante to re-format my hard drive and start with a fresh install of XP.

Does anyone have any tips on this process? I've tried the method recommended by Microsoft and its just not happening for me.

Set to boot from CD first from your BIOS. When it shows
Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM
Press any key to boot from CD,
you need to press any key on your keyboard, or your comp would attempt to boot from HD.

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

Do you have more than one CD drive? If so make sure you have the right one selected in BIOS!
