I have a free upgrade via upgrad assistant if I do this will I loose any of my info. I cannot afford to loose anything i am currently running on my pc.
If you do the desktop install (Installing the new OS from the desktop launcher) then yes, it will wipe your C: drive.
However, If you put the Windows 8 ISO onto a USB Stick and install it that way, your data will be saved.
You should back up your C: Drive with an external harddrive and put everything back on after installing Windows. Best of luck
You can't make that assertion without knowing what OS the user is coming from. If the OP is coming from Windows 7, all of his data should be fine. I would still do a backup of anything important just to be safe, but it will not completely wipe the machine out just because he is running the upgrade through the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant.
Edit: It is also possible to wipe out your data if installing from a USB stick as well. You can't make that assertion either.
