vc820 diskette error

I recently purchased an intel vc820! board with a pIII. I have installed everything into my case but I cannot get my floppy or my cd-rom to boot up a boot disk. always get invald boot diskette I have gone into the Bios and set everything accordingly and the peripherals are acknowldged. I am using two different win 98 se start up disks and Win 98 se cd rom but to no avail. This is my first time dealing with Intel and i was curious if anyone could help.

I don't know that board, but the only things I can think of at the moment are basic.

Wrong BIOS setup for boot devices.
Bad or incorrectly installed cable/hardware.
Flakey BIOS version.
Etc.

Sorry, this isn't much help. Since this seems to happen to multiple devices, I presume it a motherboard/BIOS issue.
