Problems connecting to Internet via Ethernet cable

I have Internet Hooked up in my study I bought a ethernet cable long enough to reach my ps3 in my room, i disconnected my pc and connected ethernet I went to network settings on home screen on ps3 so I could connect to Internet and it's tell g me they cannot obtain ip address! I've tried many times turning modem of and redrafting ps3 but stil it happens I can't play online any ideas please help!!

If your directly connecting the ps3 to your adsl modem, you may need to power cycle it, to ensure it will assign the wan i.p to your ps3 and not your pc.

If you have the pc connected to a router, then check that you have enough dhcp i.p address setup.

If you are connected to a router, think about using static i.p address.
