Via, Asus K7V and AGP4x

I'm having problems with my current motherboard Asus K7V. I've installed the via 4in1 drivers, and tried the latest version too. I am using the latest drivers for my current video card, a Creative TNT2 Ultra Gamer.I have tried installing the AGP driver in turbo mode and then the via agp 4x registry hack and wcpuid shows agp 2x. any attempt to use the creative AGP wizard to produce AGP 4x and although wcpuid shows 4x, games do not load.
with the driver in normal mode, only agp 1x is possible even with the AGP wizard.
I'm getting a bit cheesed off, anyone got any ideas?

I suppose it is always possible that my card may only support 2x...Eeeek, still I'm getting a new one after crimbo
