Could someone help me ?

I have a crazy OEM motherboard (Intel AG430HX) and I want to know if I can do something to upgrade the processor. I currently have a 166Mhz MMX processor. I want to know if is it possible to put an AMD processor on it and how to do that.

You can find the motherboard manual at this address :
ftp://ftp.cybernetique.com/pub/Intel_(documentations)/ag430hx.pdf

Thanks a lot for your help and excuse me for english errors :))

You won't be able to put an AMD processor on that board; you'll have to upgrade to a new motherboard.

Yes, you can put an AMD processor on it. It has to be the early higher voltage K6 (not K6-2) processor. I had one that said 3.3v/3.2v Core. Put it in with intel's 2.8v core mobo and it worked. Maybe I just ahd a good chip. Anyhoo, it still won't go above 233, because of the multiplier. The only real solution is an overdrive. Go to http://www.evertech.com/spectra/spectraall.asp for AMD K6-2 overdrives to 400MHZ.

I seem to recall someone here on this board who had the same problem (but not the same motherboard). He purchased a K6-2, 475 Mhz which is spec'd to run on a 2.4 volt core. He just ran it at 2.8 volts and used the 2X multiplier trick. The K6-2 interprets a 2X multiplier as 6X and 6 x 66 Mhz is 400 Mhz. 400 Mhz is a lot better than 166 Mhz. You would need a good heatsink and fan, though.

I'll see if I can find that post.
