If your computer is fairly new and all you have to upgrade is the motherboard then go for the A7V133, but if you're like me and have a 'old as hell' computer then get the A7M266 since you'll have to upgrade everything anyway.

I'm in the same boat (and will be rebuilding from scratch) - though I've just bought 256MB of PC133 SDRAM, I will probably go with whatever comes first. Any thoughts or speculation on which will hit the market first?

I am also in the rebuilding. Um, actually just building because I don'e have a unit yet. But through my constant search for info before I build my system, I came across some info about the A7M266 located here.

I know it is not much but I think it will help you in your decision. You said that you have just bought a 256MB PC133 SDRAM. If you intend to use this just go for the A7V133 because the A7M266 only supports PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM (I got that info from the ASUS site).

I personally would wait for the A7M266 because I want higher bus speeds and I think it can be overclocked upto 360MHz(180x2). Also, I think this would be compatible with the upcoming AMD Palomino which I intend to buy (hopefully) as soon as it is out.

Have fun finding a Thunderbird or Duron that will go to 180MHz FSB....... I highly doubt you'll ever find one. That's just the top limit on the motherboard.

Hi guys,
I just bought the A7V133 in Germany but I can't find an Athlon 1200/133 so I had to buy an Athlon 1200/100 instead. When the 1200/133 becomes common I'll change.
The reason I didn't go for the A7M (which is also availlable in the same German shop)is because I recently bought 512Mb expensif Muskin PC133 Cas2 SDR SDRAM and I want to recup it for my new system.
The German shop has the boards but not the processor nor the DDR SDRAM.

But if I were to buy a Palomino, do you think it can go to 180MHz FSB?

Oh..ok.

What do you think is the max bus speed of the Palomino? With your reply it seems it is less than 180Mhz, right? So the only advantage of the upcoming Palomino is its less heat dissipation, power consumption and high clock speeds. Other than that it is pretty much the same with the Athlon.

HeHe,
No m8 I dont know the man :). Just living in Belgium, a country where all new technology comes when it is outdated everywhere else and that only can hit the worldnews with dioxine chickens and some other scandals.

Well I think the maximum bus speed is 180MHz, but it won't run at that. If you do get a Palomino to run at 180MHz bus your the luckiest dude in the world.

The Palomino will not run at 180MHz at a A7M266 mobo with 180MHz FSB. Why is that? Could it probably be caused by the limited existing DDR-SDRAM with only a speed of 133MHz or something else?
