Im getting a new computer system and i wanted to know whats the over all best printer for around $400 i dont entend to do much photo printing cause i have no scanner and no digital camra but i would like it to print well and reliably with out alot of noise

I dont know what country you are in, but the HP 930c printer is a really good printer, high res and reasonably fast, the Lexmark Z42 is a good unit too

fyi: according to hp, the only difference between the 930, 932 and 935 inkjets is the bundled software. pc magazine and pc world both the 932 as a good soho unit.

I think epson 880 is a good printer. The print out looks good and the speed is pretty fast too.

If you can find the Xerox DocuPrint M760 (they've discontinued it), that's what I'd recommend. It's only $60, the ink tanks are separate, and it's pretty dang quick. I'm not sure you'll appreciate the noise and slight shaking, but I feel the quickness makes up for it. But, it might be so good only because I'm comparing it to my Epson Stylus Color 400 that I was using previously.
