Pavilion XE783 modem driver for Win2000

Archived from groups: comp.sys.hp.hardware (More info?)

Is it one of those modem/sound card combos? You can tell by the audio
and the modem using the same PCI slot from the back of the computer.

I don't know why HP told you to remove the device from the Device
Manager (and I couldn't find those directions)? Because once you tell it
to disappear, the OS will ignore this device sometimes like forever! And
it can be a royal pain to get it to show up once again. Generally, the
right way was to leave it there and just to use the reinstall the driver
option.

The modem part is a Cheetah. Are you sure you downloaded:

I recently completed a clean install of Win2000 on an HP Pavilion XE783 for
a friend. The operating system is working great but it won't find the
modem. I went to HP's site and downloaded the recommended driver for this
computer for Win2000 and removed the device in Device Manager the way they
advised. When I boot up it finds the hardware but won't find the driver no
matter how I do it.

Does anybody know exactly what modem this machine has or where to find the
correct driver? I've been to DriverGuide and other sites but don't know
what to look for. I've run utilities to find out but they don't even see
the modem.
