I bought a new Abit KT7 non raid. I'm confused, I'm not seeing a device manager listing for my ATA/66 controller. I have an old Abit Be6, that one has it's own scsi listing in device manager for the hotrod controller. Do I assume that my new KT7 board is running at ATA/66 speed by default without any driver support needed?

The kt7 has 2 ide slots and 2 highpoint slots. In device manager, the ide controllers show up under disk controllers. The highpoint controllers show up in scsi controllers. There is a highpoint bios which must be enabled and there is a highpoint driver for the os.

You didn't say which operating system.

Assuming Windows 9x/ME, check in the Device Manager under Hard Disk Controllers. You should see VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller. If you don't, load the 4-in-1 drivers (get and load the lastest, anyway).

After, check, again in Device Manager, under Drives and make sure DMA is checked for IDE hard drives.

That's it.

The KT7-Raid has 4 IDE ports just as you described. However, the KT7 only has TWO ATA/66 ports.
