Asus P2B-DS: problems with USB

Hi

I am just in the process of trying to install an ADSL modem on the USB port
of my PIII 500 system (built around an Asus P2B-DS).

Although the system recognises the USB ports fine and has installed the
appropriate drivers for them, it hangs whenever the USB modem is connected.
Also, it fails to detect a USB mouse I just used to test it with.

Is anyone aware of any known problems with the USB ports on Asus P2B series
motherboards? I have noticed that the USB controller shares an IRQ with the
on-board SCSI controller and that these assignments are hard-wired and
cannot be modified. Could this be causing the problem?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

I am assuming since you said they are recognized, but did you enable your USB ports in the Bios because I had the same prob and went into Bios and enabled my USB and that fixed it.

Yup - checked that it's all cool. I think it may have something to do with the SCSI controller and USB controller sharing an IRQ, but I'm damned if I can find any information on Asus' site or anywhere else about a workaround.

Thanks anyway.
