Greater Freedom is now $39.95 for 1000 min, Unlimited N/W, Unlimited M2M
from your coverage area to any Alltel phone anywhere, Free Long Distance
and a few toys..... Tell them to take off the $3/mo charge for "Roadside
Assistance" the computer automatically adds. Alltel doesn't charge a
connection fee or charge to port your Verizon number to Alltel.

I got Greater Freedom 700 mins 2 months ago without a contract using my
"defective" Verizon V60i. I called and asked about the 1000 mins to the
611 TSR, today. He upgraded me with no hassle beginning the next
billing cycle....300 more minutes for free! Just take your Verizon phone
to Alltel for reprogramming. The audio doesn't gurgle on Alltel, either!

A former Verizon customer, it takes a little getting used to....(sigh)

Great promo reason to jump ship. Alltel, by the way, is NOT my
employer, I am.

I'd move but I'm not in an Alltel area. The closest area is about 35
miles - either west (Culpeper, VA - SID 424) or south (Richmond, VA -
SID 83). Porting numbers are only good in your ratecenter :-(

Looks pretty darn good and its basically the same coverage area as
VZW's America's Choice.

Oh, and of course there's the problem of my 2 year contract that's not
up until March 2006.

No it's not. These are Alltel's equivalent plans to the Local Digital
Choice plans on VZW. Mine covers from about 70 miles inside GA to about 50
miles inside VA, all of SC and NC and the border region of TN. Alltel's
National Freedom plans are not part of this deal. Those are like AC on
VZW.

300 more minutes on a 700 minute plan is a real upgrade!

Glad your finally happy Larry. Funny how all of a sudden a "toyphone"
is acceptable... BTW does Alltel work in your local Wal-Mart? MB

Larry's contention has been, for quite some time, that the problem with the
"toyphones" is that they can't pull in signals from distant towers well.
Judging from his reports here, I'd say Alltel has more towers in his area than
Verizon does, and therefore his phone's lack of power is much more of a
non-issue. If you haven't read his recent posts on the diff between his local
VZW network and his local Alltel network, you ought to.

Alltel works inside all the WalMarts I've been in. In fact, there's an
Alltel STORE inside the big Wally Worlds, too. The aforementioned WalMart
in Oakbrook shopping area has plenty of signal on Alltel where my defective
phone used to read NO SERVICE on VZW, thank you.

There is also some difference in the system equipment between the two
companies. The same V60i will function flawlessly on signals down to near
-95 dBm on the V60i's test page on Alltel. This would never occur on VZW.
USEABLE signal levels on VZW's system here is -85 to -90 dBm range. Lower
than that, the calls go berzerk with errors and drop. I only have -90 to -
95 dBm in my home, but the calls work fine. Go figure.

Whether or not Alltel is in the Wall Farts depends... obviously, they aren't
here because Alltel doesn't make it all the way to California (Arizona, yes,
but not Cali), but even in Cleveland, which is unquestionably the largest city
where they have a presence - even in Cleveland, where they have a large
network, only some of the Wall Farts have Alltel kiosks.

Here, they're Cingular kiosks.
