Trying to upgrade a friends old Gateway P200 MMX. It has a 430 TX chipset. What is the largest AMD K6-2 cpu the 430 TX
will support?

if you could tell me what model gateway the computer is would help greatly.
you could possibly use any of the new k6-2+ or k6-3+ as well as any k6-2 at 350 or above.

who is more foolish...
the fool, or the fool that takes his advice?

i am sorry i asked the wrong question.
duh please don't hit me!
could you supply the bios string?
(hit pause when the bios info posts on the screen so you have time to copy it)

i have been digging around and the closest i can find is if you set jumper "jb1" to 3&5 shorted and 2&4 shorted you might be able to run at 400mhz. but i don,t know for sure because i can't get a good pix or docs on the motherboard.
see if it has a jumper for 60/66 buss speed.
it may auto detect and you will be stuck at 6*60 instead of 6*66.
also your bios should not recognize the chip properly and you would ne to tweek the settings manually to get maximum performance.
lastly i am not sure what voltage you will be sennding to the cpu you want 2.2 core 3.4 i/o but 2.4 and 3.5 will work.
you can look here to find all the info that i did.
