Looking at the start date on that thread I have to say, "DooDoo"...unless there's something hidden in one of the comments that I overlooked. Marv, you're thinking there's going to be a release of a new MBP 15" despite that they just bumped the specs on the current form factor? Where'd you see that?

Not crazy at all! You have a much lighter yet still very capable ultra portable that the industry is trying to copy. I know the screen on your new blade is very sharp but is the resolution not a little hard on your eyes?
Congratulations on the new addition!

Yes it is on the eyes especially my age.I like LION OS quite a bit.

Lion is pretty sharp, eh?
| halcyon wrote : Lion is pretty sharp, eh? |
Lion OS very good and not that hard to use and it is very convenient also.
You go that right. ...and with the 10.7.2 update is seems to perform pretty well. I'm liking it. One of the things I like about OS X is that as long as it run on your hardware it tends to run well on your hardware...even if the hardware is older. That's just my experience, other's mileage may vary.

Very easy to use LION OS I am at least content with this part not the MBA

Well, you could tell Apple that you fear the laptop is overheating and sometimes it shuts down. Sometimes it does shutdown, doesn't it? Doesn't it Marv?
Or you could Google Macbook Air problems... and prentend to be technically clueless.
It's best if you get a girl to do it.
Sexism can be useful sometimes.

In this day and age no one is going to really believe a girl is clueless, though...so good luck with that.
Use a blonde, that will work.

I presume your personality is shown through your responses.I love a wise ass with nothing backing it up.

It does not shut down at all. I was at the apple store today and they tested it out for over 4 hours no fan noise at all.

Shame they wouldn't accept it as a return.

I would defend Dr. AMDfangirl but it might be seen as patronizing. Marv, seriously, do you think the noise is really abnormal or is it just that its significantly more audible than you're accustomed to?
When I had a Macbook 2,1 (Black) it would always exhbit a flickering display on min brightness when scrolling web pages, in the Apple store they never reproduced the problem because they set the brightness to max.
My point is Apple does a terrrible job of believing people.
What I did was I filmed the Macbook as evidence and they gave a refund. To prove it wasn't the camera, I showed another computer and it worked without flickering. I suggest video evidence.

Apparently it's cheaper for unpaid mods to trawl through the internet than to buy filter technology.

Video evidence with the audio captured of the improper fan noise may not be convincing, but it may be indeed worth a shot Marv. I'm not sure where you're located but its unfortunate you were not able to buy the Air at an actual Apple Store. They're pretty good about taking equipment back...trust me, I know.

Temp i am living here in the Philippines where the customer service sucks completely. Apple is no big support either by calling them quite a bit. When I have my small desktop fan on the fan in the MBA you hardly hear it is blowing right on it. Without it the revs are 4500 watching flash shows on MSNBC. In the store no fan noise at all.
Perhaps run a programme like Prime 95 (try and find one for the Mac, I can't because almost everything is blocked and filtered for me) to stress out the computer. Perhaps play the flash video in store?

What's the ambient temperature like...quite warm? Phillipines...you lucky devil.

Temperature is about 80 degrees F everyday. Tropical weather all the time. I miss the states after 5 years here on and off. Apple checked out the MBA today and ran a lot of tests and they said the fan is working normal. This is the way the MBA works especially with a 64HD. I am trying to sell this after 7 days. Thanks marv

I think Apple may have a point, unfortunately. Your weather is regularly hot and humid and I think that why you're hearing more of the fan. The MBA depends more on the fan than the MBP.

What would you suggest I might do to remedy this problem?I really made a big error in buying this MBA
If you hate the fan noise so much get a fan control app to reduce the fan speed.
Will overheat tho.
Could underclock it.

Hmmm...yeah, I imagine it overheating. Marv, are you completely positive the reseller won't take it back? If positive, put it up for sale. MacBook Airs are still popular and you should be able to sell it without too too much loss.

This is what I am doing now I have it here on the classified websites. The reseller sucks here.I want to get the Mac Mini badly. thanks

How do you know the Mac Mini wouldn't have worse fan noise? ...and if you got one and it did, what would you do?
P.S. I've auditioned a 2010 Mac Mini and I don't believe the fan noise to be worse. The 2011 models are not likely any louder, just be cautious.

thanks for the advice. This MBA is only 64HD the fan is small where as the Mac Mini is 500HD where there is more room to the fan to circulate and the processor is higher also.

Interesting. So you feel that the 11" MBA having 64GB flash storage and the Mac Mini's 500GB hard drive have a bearing on this noise level. I think its just the MBA's anorexic chassis. ...yeah the Mac Mini's more portly size does give it a little more room, however, theoretically, the hard drive would generate more heat than the 64GB of flash storage in the MBA. Anywho, the Mini is a quieter machine.
I have a desktop which runs on 64GB SSD.
Passive and silent. No noise what so ever. (SSD = no moving parts)
I would probably say it's got to do with the anorexic fan cooling the fast Sandy Bridge CPU.
| amdfangirl wrote : I have a desktop which runs on 64GB SSD.

Yeah, I think you're right...but in a way I wasn't too off. The anorexic chassis has necessitated an anorexic fan cooling a mighty-mouse CPU.

Apple charges good money for their products let them put in a decent fan not some junk!
Yes and Apple should make their products in the USA.
But they don't.
| musical marv wrote : Apple charges good money for their products let them put in a decent fan not some junk! |
Do you think its the fan itself that is bad/junk...or the laptop's use of the fan?
| amdfangirl wrote : Yes and Apple should make their products in the USA.

I can't quite agree. Us American workers are comparatively spoiled. We typically make more than our foreign brothers for the same labor. If Apple had to pay us an US competitive wage their products would likely cost even more and folks would complain even more about the price. I'm not sure its fair to expect Apple to take such a profit hit to bring jobs back home, after all, they do have a responsibility to their share holders. Also, while we suspect that the foreign workers building Apple products don't have the best conditions or pay are the conditions and pay better they do have better than what they would have if they weren't building any Apple products at all? Perhaps so...perhaps not.
I meant just for ethical and environmental considerations.

Maybe if their products were made in the U.S. the quality control would be much better and not break down a lot.
| musical marv wrote : Maybe if their products were made in the U.S. the quality control would be much better and not break down a lot. |
Perhaps...but products would be significantly more expensive (if the company is to maintain its profit margin). So, if Apple's products were made in the US, they'd be more expensive or they'd have poorer quality components since they labor would be more tremendously more expensive (to keep costs the same). TBH, I've not had any problems with Apple's quality control...their products have been high-quality, IME.

Perhaps if the American worker were not so high and mighty with their wages more stuff would be made in the states.

Perhaps, but its a standard of living that has been a long long time in the making. I can't imagine it'll change anytime soon without even more economic hardship than the US currently faces.

You are an intelligent chap what is the answer now to this economy?getting back to Apple what should I do with this clunker I own meaning the MBA 64HD? thanks mary
I think we wasted too much money in unnecessary wars. I'm not sure what the fix is.
I think you sell the MBA. I'm not sure what else you can do.

I agree the wars were a hint waste of money. Regarding this MBA I am trying to sell it so far no buyers. One proposal is $700 which is bullshit to me.
