Lag in gameplay but not the menus

I've had my laptop for almost a year. (Intel i5 M430 2.27GHz, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, nVidia GTS 360M)

Ive been able to run every pc game i throw at it, but lately ive had the worst lag. now no matter what i play (dragon age origins, fallout 3, fallout new vegas, call of duty black ops, medal of honor) or anything. i will have a fps over 30 one second then drop suddenly to around 5 or 10. ive lowered the detail to the lowest and no anti aliasing and i still lag badly. please help.

Decrease your settings..
Monitor your temps- HW monitor-
Also, kill crappy programs eating the cpu/memory n task manager. You can also try updating your graphics drivers.
