Age of empire 2 keeps crashing

Hello,
i just instaled the trail version for age of empire 2 but i keeps crashing.
i start the games and go through the fist video before the training but when i goes to start the games it crashes
i have noticed that when i starts to load it that my load thing on my mouse gets pixal out in a red color and that the screen goes black and crashes

Try setting the game's compatibility settings to Windows XP. You can do this by right-clicking on the .exe file for the game, selecting Properties, and then the Compatibility tab.

nope it still died on me
but if we cant get it working the maybe yal can suggest some games that are similar and that will work on windows 7
