Socket 7

My father-in-law has an E-machine with a socket 7 Cyrix 266 mhz proccesor. There is not a brand name on the motherboard. But there is a chart showing how to adjust the FSB (upto 100mhz) and I believe a 5x multiplier. What would be the best proccesor upgrade for the machine.

You need to know the model of your board.
How can you plan an upgrade otherwise?
You need to know if the BIOS needs to be flashed and other proper adjustments.
The make and model of the board is without a doubt engraved on the board. Otherwise, write down what the bootup screen is showing (all numbers and stuff).
Press on the Break button when that screen appears to freeze it and give you time to write down the info. Press Break again to resume boot.

Otherwise, it would be like a blind guy driving a cab in New York City. It always ends up in disaster.
