Please all you fellow computer gurus lend me your thoughts. I put an extra RAM dimm in my computer yesterday and now it is pretty much dead. When I turn it on, I get no display, the keyboard is suspended, and the computer just kind of sits there. The drives and fans spin up. It is some sort of fatal error I take it because the keyboard is suspended and I get no display. I put back in the old RAM, same thing. I put my video card in another comp and it works fine. I don't get what I did. I didn't touch anything but the RAM and now its dead. I am not new to computer trouble, as you can see by my rank/title on the forum, but this issue has me stumped. Any ideas you have would be appreciated. My computer is an expensive paperweight right now. Looks like I might have to use my backup comp for a while.

Try clearing the DIMM slots with a can of compressed air or the like. Sometimes particles can get stuck in there.

sounds like you may have shocked it with static electricity as it seems you pretty much know what you are doing. I mean you checked all cables etc. etc. ALLWAYS leave computer plugged in with power OFF and try too allways be touching the metal part of the case with some part of your arm or hand or wear a ground strap when working inside. the smallest amount of static electricity will kill any computer component, motherboard, cards etc.
