Hi please can someone advise me if my system is powerful enough to run GTA IV in Eyefinity landscape mode all from a Ati HD 5700. All 3 monitors are 1920 * 1200. My processor is an i7 920 over-clocked to 2.7ghz. Will it be choppy? What kind of settings will I be able to use?

Thanks

What 5700? I would say not a chance. You'd have to run on bear minimum settings and even then I can't see stable framerates.

Will a HD 6850 do it?

Jees, thinking about it.. jefe323 5870 is quite a powerful card looking at the GPU benchmark table. If it cant be done on that, whats the minimum card to play this game on high settings with this setup, the best card available?

Yes a 6850 is faster/better, but i would say a 6870 will do better. What are your other specs, cpu/ram, mobo, psu ?

6950/70 are now an option as well.

Specs are 6GB ram, Gigabyte Ex58-Ud5, i7 920. CPU was bought pre over-clocked to 4ghz with huge fan, for some reason its not showing over-clocked anymore, going to sort that out.

i7 920 now back to overclocked @ 4ghz, cpu is Antec CP 850W Modular PSU

Alrite then , you are good with any high performance gpu of your choice,- only dependent upon your budget.

i'd go with either a 6970 or a 5970

Im going to wait until I have enough money to go top of the range or one away from it. Just tried GTAIV eyefinity, (didnt have display port adapter before which is why I wanted to know earlier) as expected it couldn't handle it. Correction: my pc got absolutely raped. Even with the lowest detail settings it could barely render frames. I know you guys told me this was going to happen but I was still surprised how bad it was. Half Life 2 manages 20fps full detail, its a shame Rockstar couldn't make the PC version more efficient.

Ps. And this is the HD 5770 as well.. lol I thought it was just the 5700 since it was erroneously reported by a desktop gadget. I bought it a year ago and its barely gone down in price.

HL2 and GTA IV are light-years apart in system requirements. You can play HL2 with a 10 years old P4 system, while GTA 4 will struggle on many of today's mid to high range PC's. Not a good comparison at all.

But anyhow, if you have your heart set on playing GTA in e3-way Eyefinity, a LOT more horsepower is required, as you found out. The rest of your system is well spec'ed.

You're asking your machine to render 7.5x the pixels as it does on a console at that resolution, I would say anything less than dual 5870s won't cut it.

No chance a 5700 can play GTA4 on 3 monitors.

I personally had the following setup like a year back:

I7 920 @ 3.5ghz
5870 eyefinity edition (each gpu comes with 2 gb memory) in CF
6 gigs ram

At times the system would would slow down. Few months back i upgraded:

I7 980x @ 4ghz
580gtx in sli
6 gig ram

Game runs flawlessly now @ 5760*1080, doing around 60-80fps depending on scenes.
