Trying to help a friend with an HP Pavillion PC where XP has been
damaged (services missing, no add printer etc. - a virus/spyware
wrecked it). It has two hard drives, Windows XP (sp2) is installed on
the original drive and the second one was added (by vendor) later for
additional storage.
Vendor support said to do a system recovery (from OEM partition),
trying undestructive one first. However all this does is create a copy
of the windows folders and files on the second hard drive. The PC
continues to run up the broken version from the original hard drive.
I'm guessing that a destructive recovery would just reformat this
second drive and put a copy of Windows there, again leaving the broken
version.
Is there anyway to control which drive HP recovery uses? Why is it not
recognising that Windows is installed on the original drive? Anyone
experinced this problem?
