Well, not completely. I'm getting what's called a G1 up here in Ontario. The G1 is a novice driver's license with more limited driver's privileges. I have to have an accompanying experienced driver with me for example. I also can't drive past midnight, or on a highway/freeway. By next summer, I'll be getting my G2 (I'm taking driving lessons), and I won't have these restrictions.
Ohh, by the way, I am 16 if anyone was wondering.
Intelligence is not merely the wealth of knowledge but the sum of perception, wisdom, and knowledge.
Cool, congrats. Come February, I'm up for my driver's permit too
Mwahahah, people beware. hehe, I have 2 friends who have sworn to never allow me to drive, cause I'm just insane. hehehe.

Coolies for you.
Please try not to kill anyone. Its messy.
Over here in oz we have L and P plates.
yellow L plates indicate a learner driver. They must have a full liscence driver in the passenger seat at all times, and cannot have ANY alchohol in their system.
This lasts for 2 years. minimum age of 16.
P's are allowed from age 18 onwards for 3 years. Can drive normally, but again O alcohol blood level and car power restrictions.
despite this, P laters manage to get their hands on really powerful cars and kill themselves in spectacularly dumb ways.
18 + lack of experience + testosterone + mates in car + powerful engine = bad.

Ok, I fill in variables of that equation:

hehehe

G1, G2 its all bullshit.
Its a great big scam to get money.
When I was 16 I got a beginners permit which essentially had the same restrictions as a G1. Six weeks of lessons (two per week, total of 12 lessons) I took my drivers test and scored 88%. I screwed up parallel parking and I didn't use my side view mirror enough.
Now it takes months to book a drivers test and then you have to take it twice to get a regular G licence. Its all bullshit. It hasn't changed the number of car accidents. Insurance is still more expensive than ever.
The fact is if you are a dumb ass and drive like an idiot eventually you will get traffic tickets and get into an accident. It has nothing to do with age. If you don't respect the privilage to drive you are a dumb ass. It is not a right to have a drivers licence it is a priviledge. Abuse it and eventually you will loose or you will pay astronomical insurance rates to keep it. It doesn't matter if you are 16 or if you are 50 a dumb ass will always be a dumb ass. And the government of Ontario is restricting the rights of its citizens to the priviledge to drive. And they're making a ton of money on it.
When I got my licence in 1986 my learners permit was $7.50 and the test and first two year licence was $50.
How much has it cost you to get this far?

thats an awesome law there man.
i wish we had it here too. many young drivers are arses... well that goes for the guys anyway. a law like that would really help us look stupid if we did stupid shitt. better yet, it would be cool if the color went by how bad of a driver you are. like tickets and stuff

The problem is its not applied, and not applied well.
The law just states engine CAPACITY, not HP/car weight or anything useful. So they can still drive way overpowered WRX's.
Or like most it seems, completely ignore the rules and just drive a V8 anyway.
How they behave in the rain is just scarey.

Good now you can drive down to Buffalo for the LAN Party. I am meeting with Todd from Fragnation (FN) Thursday Night to brainstorm stuff for the event. David Stellmack, <font color=red><b>dstell</b></font color=red> will most likely be in attendance. I have a friend from Buffalo State College who could get 30 people. I would be happy with 15. So that plus what I know we have from FN (32 signed up) this event should topple 100 people by game-time.
<b>So get yourself in a car and drive down from Toronto on Nov. 2nd.</b>
That goes for anyone else in the area or who would like to make a road trip. David is 4-5 hours away so you can't say it is too far.
See my sig link for details and updates. I will have a "Tom-Con" poll page up tomorrow. (It will be offsite so I can get more people involved.)
For those of you who don't know what "Tom-Con" is...
<b>Tom</b>'s Hardware Guide <b>Con</b>vention for Gaming and Technology.
We are trying to make it something of the size of Quakecon and Ultra Unreal. More details will follow later.
Help David and I spread the word. if you can put links in your sigs like Slvr_Phoenix did. (Thanks again Silver!)

I am having a poll web page, etc., built and put up on the web today. I should be up by 4PM EST. Hopefully if not it will be up by tonight.
As for the local one here. It will be a smaller-larger party. (I know that is an oxymoron.) We should hopefully topple 100 people minimally. I am contacting as many groups, universities & colleges, people in IT, etc. as possible to make this thing fly and fly sky high. I do not want a flop. There is only a month to get this up and running. It can be done.
Back to the Poll...
We need feedback to get Omid to okay funding. There is a lot of work to do but we need to get this prelim stuff out of the way. So I will need you all to participate and your friends, and you co-workers, and fellow classmates, and your dogs, and ... I think you get the point.
The better the feedback and the greater the demand the faster we can move forward to actual planning.
We also need real feedback. The better our input is the better we can tailor an event around the wants of those attending.
As for Kansas City...
Our first choice was Columbus Ohio. If you can give me better reasons for having it in KC other than that is where you live... I live in Buffalo and I don't want to go that far from home. Columbus is where David Stellmack lives and I am only 5 hours away. So if we get the green light on the whole thing please prove to me why we should go there. If you can organize 100-150+ people local in KC...that would be a good reason to look at KC.

I dont like in KC, but there are a few here that do, and it is only about 3 hours for me. I just seems everything is always on the coasts, so it will always be a long drive if I want to go.

Just remember how important brakes are, and that they wear out frequently. So, to prevent undue wear and tear on the brakes of your car, be sure to use the trees on the side of the road to help stop your vehicle. That's why the trees are there.

Time Management is very important, a bucket with a small leak in the botom loses just as much water as a bucket that is kicked over.
Hey man congrats. I won't be getting my beginners til 15 1/2. I guess PEI has less strict rules?
I'm still only 14 1/2, so I've got a whiles to wait yet. My friends are starting to get their beginners already[frow].
...And all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put my computer back together again...
I think it's become VERY loose, the age limits for driver licenses.
In fact most attributed car accidents seem to come from irresponsible under 18 drivers, which in the end causes the rest of the innocents like you to be put on the blame.
IMO it should be 18, my teacher thinks so too, not just for the sake of their security, but OURS.

If you look it up older people cause just as many wrecks.
16~21 and 55+ I mean. It's all even.

You should see how small the new age community is anyway!
Never had I looked at 8th graders like a fleet of ants...
In my age, in 1st grade or even kindergarden, 6th graders looked truly like adults, now I look at them, and I'm like: Shouldn't you be in 3rd?!
Seriously we have never had a huge amount of dwarf-sized KIDS in my high school. This alone shows that the age of 16 for driving will soon NEED to change, otherwise those at 16 in the future who even TRY to drive, will barely see the HUD and the view above! SERIOUS!

I won't be going on highways/freeways/expressways (or whatever you want to call them) until next summer when I get my G2. Since most accidents are on high-speed roads, you have nothing to worry about...............for now... hehe
Haha, I'll be almost 18 by the time I get my full G license (that's when I'm considered an "experienced" driver rather than a novice or beginner).

I was a farm kid. I started driving at age of 7. Combines, tractors, grain trucks (a bit tricky mind you) and then progressed up till I got my learners permit. Only got caught w/out my license once. they took my permit, but when i went ot go take my license I told them that I lost my permit and they gave me my license. lol. I think it's all relative to the experience you have.
