I went to the computer store today to purchase a laptop wi a battery
lifetime of 6 (or more :) hours. The salesperson directed me to the HP
Pavilion DV1220US wi the 6-cell battery. After using it for awhile at
home, the battery seems to last more like 2-3 hours (that's w/o any DVD
activity) I've been all over the HP site, but can't find any
reference to the battery life of this product line.

The manager of the store said that he contacted HP and they said the
battery could last 6 hours, but that would depend on how the laptop is
used. Do you think the salesman 'misspoke' when he told me it was a
6-hour battery?

"Tell them anything if it will make the sale!" Things to check to
enhance battery life: Screen brightness at absolute minimum for viewing;
turn off WiFi; set Allow Power Off for USB Root Hubs; in Power Options,
set set screen standby, HD power down, and computer standby to minimums.
There might be others, but these are the major power savings methods.
Also check that the laptop has dual battery or high capacity battery as
options.

It doesn't sound like a 6-cell battery can last 6 hours to me. Even if
it's running a Pentium M chip, I would estimate 3-4 hours on most
laptops w/a 6cell battery. (i.e. Dell Inspiron 6000 claims 4hr20min
using a 6-cell 53WHr battery and 5hr20min using a 9-cell 80WHr battery,
but the Inspiron 6000 is on the high-end of battery life for desktop
replacements).
