Crysis 2 - Will my computer handle it?

Hi all,

I was wondering if my computer will handle Crysis 2 high/ultra high settings, +50fps with AA and AF ??

I play at 1920x1080 resolution on a 24" screen.

Here are my specs:

-m4a88td-v evo/usb 3.0
-amd athlon ii x3 445 @ ~3.920GHz, 1.45v (max temp 44c) w/CM Hyper 212+
-xfx hd 6870 1GB (950/1110)
-Corsair XMS3 4gb ddr3 1600MHz @ 1494mhz cl9
-650w chieftec super series
-samsung f3 1tb
-antec six hundred II (+ 2x120mm input front/side)
-benq 24" 1920x1080 2ms

I'm a little afraid that my cpu will be a bottleneck since it is recommended to have a 4 core cpu (if I recall right).

Anyone know what benefit I will get from upgrading to a Amd Phenom II x4 955/965BE and oc it to aprox. same clock as I have now?

Thanx for response in advanced =)

Solution
The answer is no.

The HD 6870 with an i7 980X Extreme Edition only manages to get 20FPS average and 29FPS max with everything maxed out and AF 16x and AA 4x in Crysis. Crysis 2 is supposed to be a little less demanding than Crysis, but not to the point where max FPS will jump from 29 to 50.

Also, playing Crysis 2 in DX11 mode (Tessellation) will impact performance because creating those extra polygons will consume processing power.

You shouldnt have a problem with your system, the min specs atm

Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz or Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5800+
GeForce 8800GT or Radeon HD 3870
RAM 2 GB
Hard Disk Space 9 GB

Your gpu should handle all the settings on high or above so enjoy.

Thx, for quick reply!

Yeah I read about the min req. in another thread here but I'm not aiming for min reqs. Want it to run smoothly with high settings :p

Therefore I was wondering if I could get a boost by upgrading the cpu to one of the mentioned above? If I could get a 8-10 fps boost it's worth the upgrade...

Btw: Nice rig you got there =)

You should have no problems overall, but you probably won't be getting a constant 50+fps.

EDIT: Hmm, the processor part of your computer sounds odd. Mainly since the tri/quad Athlon's can't go above 3.5GHz without serious issues.

Okey sweet, sure it won't be a 50+fps all the time, but for an average!!

It is a C3 Stepping, no problem to oc it higher than 3,5GHz. I have it at 280 x 14 = 3920MHz (1.425-1.45 V).

After stress testing it with Prime95 for 10 hours highest temp reached was 44C (although it is winter in Norway at the moment so probably do a new test again to check temps when summer bumps in)..

Also tried 14,5 multiplier but bsod right after starting prime95 :(

You think I would get a significant fps bump with an oc'd x4 955BE?

A slight? Possibly, I'm still baffled by how you got your tri that high, as I was able to unlock my 440's fourth core but it won't overclock above 3.5 no matter what.
The phenom II will give a performance boost, I would personally go from a tri to a hex...although the 955 overclocks well and performs well based on what I hear.

Thanx for reply!

I read alot about the athlon II's before I bought it. I also tried to unlock the fourth core but wont boot into windows what so ever (upping voltages, underclock etc.)

I've read that ppl who unlock the fourth core will limit it's oc capabilities to about 3.4 - 3.6GHz some exceptions to 3.8GHz but never seen unlocked at 3.9GHz. Although it is really independent cause ever cpu is different and off course depending on the cooling aswell!

Eventhough the last core was bad im still pretty happy cause of the high clock, although I'd like to get the L3 cache :(

Wow thanks for the info jaguarskx, real nice :D

With my athlon x3 @ 3.9GHz will probably withdraw some fps from the result above as well.. Damn it :p This means that I can't play Crysis 2 online with any good fps, probably around average around 17-19 fps average?!?

Is it a lot of difference between HQ and the setting below?
What kind of graphic setup would you recommend me to run based on my specs and what fps do you think I would get then?

Really appreciate that you took the time to answer my questions!
