Hi.
I have a very important file I can't seem to recover. It was on my desktop and the power went out abruptly. After I rebooted, XP (running SP2) told me the file was corrupted and to run CHKDSK. I did so (with the /r switch), but it had to reboot first to unlock the drive. During the scan, CHKDSK found the file and deleted indexes, etc. associated with it. Then, on the 4th phase, it said the "orphaned" file was recovered. After XP loaded, I could not find the file and I still can't.
The file was a document and I even searched by all files modified today and also using a partial name search. No recovered file has been found. I have since tried a number of file recovery utilities I found online, but none of them has found it (some just seemed to find all document files on my hard drive).
Does anyone know how to recover an orphaned file supposedly recovered by CHKDSK? I did look for .CHK files, but found nothing. Am I just screwed here? I haven't tried a System Restore yet, but only want to do that as a last resort in case it overwrites my lost file. Plus, does System Restore even save ordinary document files? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
