AMD 760 Series MB's

What do you think is the best mobo for the AMD 760 series...uses 761 northbride etc....Anyway, right now I think ASUS A7M266 would be best...anyone using that one.

Finally, anyone know of site that bundles AMD 760 Series 1.2 or 1.113 processor with DDR266 MB.

Thanks

MSI K7Master-S. Much more stable than the Asus (at this time), includes Ultra160 SCSI and Ultra100 Support. Has 4 DIMM slots for 4GB of DDR instead of only 2 with the A7M266. Lots more advantages too, but it is a tad pricey (due to the Adaptec Ultra160 options). Very good product, but much of that is due to their special partnership with AMD.

You won't find any bundles yet as the CPU is not yet in the distribution channel.

Expect to see the 266MHz bus CPU shipping in Last week of March or first week of April, BUT IN VERY LOW QUANTITIES. I called my rep. at Tech Data last night and found (while they don't even have a part number for boxed CPUs yet) the sales reps have been collecting hand written orders for when they put it in the system (over 5000 of them so far). I'm going to have to kiss some serious butt to get ahead of those guys on the backorder list. I'm practicing my puckering as I write this.

The real problem is that when the CPUs start shipping, you may start having trouble getting the motherboards, so I would suggest ordering one at the start of the third week in March... That way you beat the street and get the latest revisions. (We have found the current revision to be VERY stable though, so I wouldn't worry about it.)

The best DDR RAM we have seen so far is the Corsair 2100. It is available and shipping now in small and large quantities.

Hopefully by the end of March the Asus A7M266 will have some revisions that will prevent it from crashing every hour.

Good Luck

I just ran out of the Corsair PC2100 yesterday, but will have another order going in on Monday and will get new prices then. I wish that I could sell you some of the RAM in the lab, but it's marked not-for-resale.. Sorry.

I have the Mushkin 128MB PC2100 Hand picked yeilds (2.5-2-2) at $169.00 each and the Mushkin 256MB PC2100 Hand Picked yields (2.5-2-2) at $375.00 each plus shipping.

If you wait till Crucial releases there PC2100 you will get it for a lot cheaper. The following is from crucial for PC1600 so im guessing that the PC2100 will beat others pricing.

256MB DDR PC1600 • Unbuffered • ECC • 2.5V • 32Meg x 72 CT3272Z202 $100.79

PC1600 from Crucial uses 64Mb Micron chips that won't support the PC2100 standard. I would suggest looking at only PC2100 as that is what you will want to have with your (C) flavored 266MHz CPU. Additionally, I think you will find that the Corsair and Mushkin RAM smoke the Crucial RAM in terms of PC1600 performance (for the 200MHz CPU users out there). Additionally, ECC RAM presently doesn't work in the A7M266, so it should be avoided completely.

I wasn't aware of that. I wasnt saying to get the PC1600 btw I was just suggesting that the PC2100 may be quite a bit cheaper than $300+ for 256MB stick. However you gujys are the pros so I can't argue with what you said about the performance, I read on this board that Crucial is a good brand.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the PC1600, if you have a 200MHz CPU this is what you want! However, if you are going with a 266MHz CPU, you'll need to get PC2100 since if you used PC1600 you would have a FSB of only 200MHz and would really be restricting your capabilities.

I have seen quite a few people underclocking their DDR memory by using 200MHz CPUs and PC2100 DIMMs. They do this as they are still waiting for the new CPU's and wanted to get RAM early. Personally, I would try to get the CPU first, and then hopefully by that time the prices of the DDR memory will have come down a tad. I guess were going to have to wait until the end of March to find out for sure.

Of course, I could be completely off base with that statement in that when the new 266MHz CPUs start shipping in quantity, we could see a run on DDR RAM creating shortages. Just a heads up, as I really have no way of predicting what will happen.

I would if I could! LOL... Actually, you're pretty much limited to 256MB DIMMs right now, so you would max out with 512MB (unbuffered NON-ECC only) on the Asus A7M266 and 512MB (unbuffered) or 1GB (registered) on the MSI K7Master's.

Major OEMs are sucking them all up since AMD changed it's policies regarding who gets them first and how many everybody gets. If we were Hewlett Packard, we'd have them, but then again, who wants to be HP?

A7M266 supports the PC2100 and is advertised to support the ECC. However I am told that it has some serious problems with the ECC and fails to support it. The PC2100 is the 133MHz DDR.

http://www.monarchcomputer.com/ has the 1.13 GHz 266FSB for sale. They have it by itself or paired up with a mobo and heatsink/fan.

Sure they do.. It's on backorder and it's an OEM CPU.

Why would anyone spend that kind of money for a processor with only a 90-day warranty and no heatsink/fan assembly?

Not to mention that OEM CPUs are not the same quality as a boxed CPU. To make things even worse, you'll still have to wait until it is off backorder!

QuantumDTN asked earlier if anyone had the athlon c paired up with a mobo and heatsink/fan and monarch does. They have them in stock and are shipping. No need to get testy.
