I have three old slot 1 motherboards:

a Soyo 6KL with 333 MHz Celeron
an Abit BH6 (Rev 1) with 400 MHz Celeron
an unidentified Packard Bell with 300 MHz PII

I would like to upgrade one or more of them to a
faster CPU, if only a faster (700 MHz or higher)
Celeron. I know that I'll need a socket 370
to slot 1 adapter, but other than that, should
such an upgrade work? I have checked the company's
Web sites for BIOS upgrades for faster processors,
and have found none, nor have I received replies
from their tech support. Can somebody who has
a clue about such things tell me why or why
not this would work, if there is anything I
can do to make it work, etc.?

On a more ambitious level, would it be possible
to make one of these PIII compatible? If not,
what's missing?

Thanks,

-Sheldon

i think the abit bh6 can run over 700mhz. technically, you don't even need a socket to slot converter. you just have to make sure you get a cpu that runs on 100mhz fsb.

You can forget about the Packard Bell. Too bad about the PCB on the Abit (as previously mentioned above). What revision is the 6KL 1.0 or 1.1?

I was just about to buy a PIII 700E for BH6, good thing I read the above posting.

I have looked through my BH6's manual and the MB itself, but I can't seem to find what rev it is.

Can anyone help?
