WTF?!
No seriously, THG has a post about it in the Oct 12 Hard News, and yet I see no one out there perhaps mentioning it widely, or even some panicking?
Could someone fill me in on the last time a news of the end of the world didn't shake anyone?
This is weird, and I hope this is a hoax or joke, cuz just the idea that a tech website links us to Yahoo news, is scary.

Why are you afraid? Why panic? Why worry? It's gonna happen whether you want it to or not. So go out and live your life the way you think you should. No regrets, don't hide anything from anyone. Tell people how you really feel. Kinda like pike is doing now. Then end of the world shouldn't bother anyone. Just think of it as going to sleep and never waking up.

Yeah, but what about the poor guys who haven't had the opportunity to bonk someone and show their o face:) Well, 6 years for that. Eden, dun worry, worst case, they'll make a giant amd cpu and run it w/o heatsink where sun is, and it'll give off light as it burn. hehe.

Well it stand under gossib... and I checked the ESA site and the site of a famous Dutch astronomist and there is nothing about it.

The Earth's diameter is 12756 km. 30x12756=38260 km. Solar flares are known to get lenghts of several 100000 kilometers.

Thanks to you and svol for confirming. I was at my friend's house today and told him this, and indeed it made no sense. 6 years in star life is relatively small, like a nanosecond can be so important to the CPU but for us it's NOTHING!
So it'd make no sense that in 6 years the sun'd evolve so quickly.

As much as I like your attitude to be happy-go-lucky, and go far without worries, I think this part is something I truly cannot possibly agree with. I am one of those people who are extremly overconscious, I feel my soul. When I think of the end, I just plain worry, some may take the bright road but I have the selfish way of worrying about myself and fearing it's all over.
Sorry bub, can't sympathize here, at least it was fake...

Yeah. whatever the number i dont think we will have to worry about it.
Even when it does end its hard to determine where the end IS.
The sun will swell in stages as the hydrogen then helium is all consumed, scorching then eventually vaporising our planet. Then eventially i think it goes pop, and the remnants shrink into a white dwarf star that eventually fades to a cold black dwarf.
These processes alone will take millions if not billions of years.

I have no regrets. If I died now I'd be a happy man. I'm somewhat religous also. I mean I go to church but not every sunday. I my mind I know exactly where I'm going after I die. So what's to worry about?

Although some subjects have been sent to Eurodisney in Paris. Most of those people were religious at one point in their life but not when they died. They got caught in the middle apparently. Not quite hell, not quite heaven.

This is my policy, you needn't give me that reality check!
My policy is to live to the max, I try to make every moment as much fun. In my old topic where I had problems with people BSing work and procrastination (not anymore with the latter), I had said how I have a rather hedonistic view, PUSH your family to do things with others, don't just be bored!

man, that would be awsome if we knew the world were going to end in 6 years, well maybe if just i knew. i would eat chocolate sundays for dinner every night. and eat tons of bacon for at least 4 meals a day, then for sure i would smoke 2 cigars every day. just think about it! dont have to worry about retirement, dont have to worry about your health, no worrys at all!!! then on that day, i would do all the stupid stuff i always wanted to try but never did. of course it would suck if it turned out to be a hoax.
