what's the difference between overclocking with the pencil thingy and the bios clock speed thing in an asus a7v?

I'm not dumb. Neither am I stupid. I'm just not that smart

closing the solder bridges on the CPU unlocks the multiplier. I believe the clock setting you are talking about is the Front Side Bus setting. The CPU speed is determined by the multiplier * FSB. For instance, AMD Tbird 1gig is 10*100MHz=1000MHz. The multiplier is locked by default which would only allow slight overclocking using the FSB, but the pencil trick allows you to change the multiplier. So you might get 1150 or even 1200 out of the 1gig Tbird.
