Old xbox hard drive as xbox 360 storage

Hello I'd like to find out if a old xbox original hard drive can be put in a external HD case and then connected to a new 360 - Black 250 gb unint for extra storage thru USB hook up. ?

Once you've got that hard drive out of it's 360 case, go ahead and jam it into an external case and you're good to go.
