A little information please regarding the best place to install Linux.
I have a system with XP installed on drive C.(80gig)I have another drive as a slave (30gig) with
nothing on at present - drive G. To avoid any problems with partitions should I install Linux on G and will
it still recognise windows on a different drive?

Yeah if you have a second drive that'll be easiest. Might as well use the entire drive for linux too... The simplest partitioning would be:

28 gigs /
2 gigs linux swap

I'd actually do something like this:
12 gigs /
26 gigs /home
2 gigs linux swap

But that's just me :)
