My rig:
Processor:AMD Athlon II X3 440 (3.1GHZ; Triple Core)

GPU: ATI Raedon HD 5770 (1GB; DDR5)

RAM: 4GB DDR3(1*2)

HDD: 500 GB

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bit)

Monitor: 15"( at 1280*1024)...

What famous and new games can it max out at the given resolution??

Almost any game I suppose that had been released.

The HD 5770 is good for gaming, and that processor however isn't that good, but it would have been better to get a AMD Phenom II X 4.

Overall, any game can be maxed out.Apart from GTA IV, since it has a really bad port..

Also, perhaps Crysis as well can be maxed out at that res and get a good 20-30 FPS

Crysis and Crysis warhead gets around 30-40fps at 1440x900 on high to ultra settings with 4xAA with that processor and a slightly overclocked 5770. At his resolution he should manage higher framerates or better anti aliasing (Which is a good idea considering your resolution).
The CPU is still decent, it's just not good for serious rendering. It's not good for overclocking though, as my 440 couldn't get past 3.5GHz and stay stable.

At times it will be fine, may drop below 30fps but only if he maxes AA and AF.

Why? You'll get a possible increase in performance, but the 5770 is great at low resolutions to higher ones like 1680x1050.

You will be upgrading for nothing. You will be simply wasting money if you move from a HD 5770 to a GTS 450. Also, GTS 450 is slower than the HD 5770 in most cases and onlt the TOP edition or OCed edition of GTS 450 can beat the stock HD 5770.

If you're trying for an upgrade, best you go for a HD 5850 or HD 5870 or the NVIDIA's GTX 560 Ti or the GTX 570 ( if its affordable to you, that is ).

Personally, I don't you need an upgrade just yet, you already have a good card and processor. But its your choice.
