How can i run Hard Truck 2,an old game, on my cpu that has windows vista? Becuase when i starts the game there is an error box that pops-out saying: Your computer dus not have graphic accelerator. I went on my graphic\'s card site and they told me it becuz the game canot detect new hardware because its an old game. Pease help!

By old, how old are we talking about? If it is the game made in 2002 that came up in the Google search, try running the game in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode, or possibly Windows 98 compatibility mode and see if it launches. If we are talking really old, as in DOS era, you are going to need DOSBox, an emulator program that creates a DOS environment that can run the old 16 bit DOS applications that can no longer be run on Windows. You can find it at www.dosbox.com

Hard Truck 2 was released back in 2000 for Win 98 and is a DirectX 7 game.

The problem is I think I read somewhere, sometime ago that DirectX 11 only goes as far back as DirectX 8 for game compatibility. If that's true, then that is the issue you are running into. I don't know if that is the same with DirectX 10.

Jaquar, I don't know if that is to true, I am running windows 7 32bit, direct X 11 with my ATI radeon 5770 and I am playing Wizardry 8, which is a direct X 7 game (also runs direct x 6 and open gl). But I did have to install direct x 9c update to run some of the other games I own (L4D and L4D2 require direct x 9) so is it because of DX9 that I can play older game, not 100% sure, but I would say that the game in question is playable in windows XP, VISTA is very picky with games that age and Windows 7 will play the games VISTA doesn't. I have somewhat tested this theory by testing a couple of games on a VISTA PC and a windows 7 PC. Now both systems are different so can't confirm possible hardware issues with these games, but they are games for Windows XP. The games run on the Windows 7 machine but not the VISTA machine, even in compatibility mode. So is the issue Windows, the PC, or another factor. I say try compatibility mode, and if you have a friend with a PC and VISTA or Windows 7, have them try run the game.

I don't see where you have posted your video card information. Vista might have an issue but you might also being using a very generic on board video card with no hard ware acceleration.
DOSBox is great and I use it for old DOS games but I don't think it will help you in this situation.
Post your video card specs.

The only two ways I know of that might let you play older games on new software and hardware are by changing compatibility options in the game launcher under properties or you can try DOSbox at http://www.dosbox.com/ it is a free emulator you can download and some people say you can even play games as old as doom95 on windows 7 when using it.

I use windows 7 64 bit and the Dosbox version .74 is what I have it is for 64 bit... if you are using 32 bit check the site link I gave you they may have a 32 bit version too!

hi buddy I had the same problem n fix it :)
was running the game on win 7 on a Radeon 7900 n it came up with "No graphic accelerater blah blah'
so all I did was plug my monitor cable into my on-board card a 'intel HD Graphics 4000' n worked fine apart from start page was a bit fussy but in game was fine. Hope this helps bro :)

I would recommend Dual boot for Windows XP and virtual machine for Older OSs
