MIT researcher says notebooks can be recharged wirelessly

We have cut the phone cord, we have eliminated the need for a cable when connecting notebooks to the Internet and we use wireless headsets. But while audio and data transmissions through the air have become normal in recent years, we still need to carry around cables to recharge our portable devices. New research now indicates that even power may go wireless soon. Read more

I'm looking for a really good quality headset for my VX 4400 with the
following priority:

I need to sound clear when I am speaking to someone. I am more
concerned about the quality of my voice transmission than I am about how
well I hear them.

Suggestions?

TIA

Louise: I have a Radio Shack HS-1958 that I'm happy with. It's got a
traditional outside-the-ear earpiece like regular headphones, and a boom
microphone with a sponge thing over it. It doesn't look as cool as some
headsets, but only morons are concerned with cool vs quality. I tested its
sound quality by calling a friend who's as picky as I am, and he gave it
high marks. I use it on my boat quite a bit, and people tell me it does a
good job of dealing with wind noise. It has volume and muting controls on
the cord, and a plug inline on the cord so you can disconnect the headset
and switch to normal phone use without dropping the call.

I may be switching from Sprint to Verizon soon, so I'm shopping for phones.
I don't see that Verizon offers your phone model any more. Any idea which
model replaced it? Sounds like you're happy with the one you have.

Never heard of 'em.

Where do they sell them? Any links to website(s) would be much helpful.

Thanks!

You've never heard of Shure? They're one of the oldest sound equipment
makers on the planet. Plug "shure qsh-3" into a google search. Plenty of
sources.

There are several models. My questions that were not addressed at the
official website ( http://www.shure.com/quietspot/index.asp?id=main1 ) are:

Can you answer the phone / disconnect the call from the headset?

Is there a volume control for the earpiece?

Thanks!

I know Shure makes good quality stuff and am also interested in getting a
good headset but I am also confused. There seems to be the QSH-3 which is
noted as "compatible" with everyhing ever made from Startacs to Blackberries
except Nokia which needs the QSH-4. The website describes all of the audio
features but doesn't seem to cover what "compatible" means. For example I
usually use a vx-4500, can the headset be used to answer/end calls and use
whatever other features are available via the headset?

QSH-3 has std 2.5mm jack. QSH-4 has the std Nokia connector. Neither has
volume control or pushbutton. Just great incoming/outgoing sound quality.

I don't think that the Shure headset(s) have any extra 'buttons' for doing
that. Their main claim to fame is their sound quality, and it seems to hold
that with this, their first entry into the phone headset arena. There are no
volume controls on the headset (hey, there's one on the phone so why would
you need one on the headset? I detest headsets that have such volume
controls, along with headsets that have mic. volume controls).

Sooo, if you want the utmost in sound quality (both receiving and sending)
then the Shure may be for you.

If you want or feel that you need volume controls and/or answer/end buttons,
then it might not be. Possibly they will add those features in a future
model or models if there is enough demand for it.

Personally, I prefer using my Motorola HS810 bluetooth headset with my V710
phone. Once you've experienced the freedom of bluetooth headsets, you won't
want to go back to wired headsets!

Probably the VX6000, which is a color camera phone but has digital modes
only.

But there are many other phones available from Verizon, of which I think
that the Motorola V710 is the best (and most expensive) of the bunch.

See my comments in another message on this thread concerning the use of
bluetooth headsets and my desire to NOT return to a wired headset in the
future. Being able to be up to 30 feet or so (actually for good quality make
it 20 feet) from the phone while talking on the headset has it's advantages,
and using one in the car is so nice and you don't have to worry about those
tangle prone headset wires!

I am not fully familiar with what's out there now, but I know that VZ
has been offering very few tri-mode phones.

You could probably pick up a 4400 on Ebay. The other one I've heard is
good is a Samsung but I don't know the model of a tri-mode one.

The LG 6100 is due out soon and early reports are it is like the 4400
only better. Trimode and better screen. Has a stub antenna though.
As for headsets an on/of button is a must. I can make calls with
voicedial without touching the phone, using the send end button. My
current Jabra EWSAM302 sounds great and has the send end button, but
the Earwrap style is hard to put on and feels kind of dangly. I don't
think the LG 4400 is able to do voice dial from the headset's on/off
button.
Plantronics corp said they only make voicedial/send/end headsets for a
few Motorola and Nokia phones. Think they called it a "tip to ring".
There's this little clip Plantronics I tried, which is easy to put on,
feels secure and sounds great, but no on/off button.

The send/end button calling is used on mainly Samsung phones. About
the only way to find the voicedial (from on/off button) feature was to
look under Samsung model headsets, although many, including some
Audiovoxs suppport this great feature. Pressing a button on the
headset to start a voicedial call, without ever having to touch the
phone, is one of the coolest features ever. Extremely useful while
driving, especially with a stick shift.
