what are the differnces in the two phones. both seem to have big
internal screeens, same size... but is there really a performance
difference that contributes to the price difference?

Yes there really is and Audiovox 9900 is the better phone. If there is a
Verizon store close to you then go and play with both of them and then buy
the 9900.

What makes the 9900 'the better phone' over a V710?? The 9900 has fewer
features, no bluetooth, 2/3rds of the internal memory, no external storage
option, 300 phonebook entries compared to 500 on the V710, etc.

You can hold the 9900 up to your ear and actually hear the other party.

Many people can not. That is one of the reasons that the 710 has been
getting returned in fairly large numbers. The manager at the store I got
mine from said that he has gotten about 40% back, which is much higher than
the LG products they sell. I tried 2 different 710's and sent them both
back mainly because of the lack of volume in the earpiece. But that is not
the only reason they go back. Cameras being crooked, Bluetooth being
crippled, phonebook problems, charging problems, random freezes, screens
that go white or have lines through them etc. Too bad that the phone is
such a problem...it really looked good on paper.
