I had a WD 80 gig external USB 2.0 drive for back up. The drive went bad and they will send a replacement but I was told to shut the drive down{power off} before shutting windows down and not to boot with it on. I guess this has something to do with data that might be held in the cache. WD said it could blow the partition out. ANY feed back on how to properly treat a USB dive with windows would help. I know the come formatted with Fat 32 and I formatted mine with NTFS.If you want to use it on win98 keep it at Fat 32 but will only hold so much before shutting down.Way below the 80gig it should hold. Microsoft released a hotfix for that issue. If you have your Win XP up to date, it shouldn't be an issue. Check the Windows Update site to make sure you've got it.
