I am currently looking to buy a new pc i would like to use it for gaming on games such as flight simutaor so a pretty powerful one would help

My system specs are currently

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.40Ghz
1gb ATI Radeon HD 4600
o/s Windows Ultimate 32 bit

Windows 7 ratings are.....

Processor 7.1
memory RAM 7.1
Graphics 6.7
primary hard disk 5.7

How much do you think i would i have to spend to make it worth my whilst in buying a new computer?

The reason i ask i dont want to spend 1200pound on a computer thats not going to be that "much" better.

well your current pc is good if you want to spend some money on it then do this
first get high end cpu cooler
second get another 4 GB of ram or 2 GB to have total of 6 GB or 8 GB
3rd get high end gpu

overclock your cpu to 4.0 GHZ to prrevent any bottlenecks
get Amd 6970 or 6990 but the 6990 is overkill or maybe you will face bottlenecks with it
if your current power supply is 650w or greater then you are good if it wass less than 600 watt get corsair HX 750 watt then for cpu cooler there is alot to chose from for air cooling i will get Noctua NH-D14 sure im using it right now or corsair H70 i consider it as high end air cooler or you can go with custome liquid cooling but its going to cost you a lot then if you have good case you wont need to change it but if you are going to change your case there is alot to chose from that is all what you need if you have any money left buy games with it
good luck
