Hello,
When I play online games, such as WoW, CoD, etc. I lag BADLY when my sister plays music and/or checks her facebook on her computer. I think it's just my horrible internet provider service, but if there is another way to fix this lag, please tell me. Thanks
Dane

as crew says you will need to set the priority. some routers will do it automatically by giving the first device in the list the most bandwidth. but others let you configure what gets what. you will need to log in to the routers config to figure out if you can adjust the priorities.

Thanks hawkeye, I used the website you shared with me. When my sister's using her computer, for whatever the hell she uses it for, i have results as follows.
ping 292 ms. (i usually get a LOT higher, around 1k, when im gaming)
download speed - .78 mbps.
upload speed - .62 mbps.
I have qwest highspeed (highspeed my ass...) wireless internet.

Wireless connection you say? Wireless throughput is affected much more severely than a wired connection when there are multiple people trying to connect, since wireless is a shared medium and only one device is allowed to transmit at any given time. Nothing you can do about it except game when you sister isn't surfing.

That's terrible? Pings should be lower. Most cable internet has a ping around 35ms-60ms. Downloads will be faster than uploads as most ISP provide a much lower upload bandwidth cap. What are your ISP's bandwidth limits? We don't have qwest around here. Are they cable or DSL? Anyhow, I'd expect your download speed to be at least 1.5Mb/s.

What are your speeds when your sister isn't online? If they are that bad, I'd call tech support. Most high speed is at least 4Mb down, .5Mb up.

Woah woah woah. they are never that bed when my sister is not on her computer on the internet. The ping is usually around 20-80 max normally. My download speed, however, is terrible. even when my sister isn't on the internet. i usually download 200 kb/s max. its horrible. :\... I had great internet, then we had to change to qwest, and they gave us a POS router along with the internet. i think changing the router might help... I dunno.

Didn't you ask this in another thread ?
