i went to a computer show today. i went looking for an asus a7m266 as the heart of my new system. when i saw it at $189 i was happy cause i know how tough it is to find it retail. it was then i realized that it had a built in sound card. i hadn't expected that and got real mad. i looked at the booklet and it said in it (audio version only). when i got back i check on asus' web site and also here and realized that it did indeed came with audio.
therefore i have 2 questions.......
1) is there a non-audio version & where can i get one?
2) if i can't then how tough is it to disable the audio card and have there been any problems after doing so?
finally, i read the review of the 3 ddr boards and overall there was not a significant difference between the ddr and non-ddr. would i be better off getting a non-ddr mobo?
I have an a7m266 and couldn't be happier. The only ones I have seen thus far have the onboard audio, but it is easily disabled and I haven't had any problems with my SB Live! X-Gamer at all. The manual doesn't document it, but if you look at the board there is a jumper on it to disable the onboard audio, it is enabled from the factory, so just put it in the other postion and you'll be fine. Also make sure it is disabled in the bios too. The jumper is near the audio connector on the mb, look around, I can't remember exactly what it was labled, but I knew that was it when I saw it.
