Hello.........as you can see.....i have a Asus CUSL2-C. I was wondering if there were any known problems with this Board when it comes to Sound Card( sb PCI 128)and modemIssues. This is my First Asus and didnt expect any problems with a highly rated board. Thanks
No, I have seen no problems, owned one for 6 months with various cards installed. Right now I have something like 12 devices sharing 1 IRQ and it still works!
Well, I don't mean to make you feel strange, or to play it smart ass, but my best friend works in a Computer Shop and in addition to what my HUGE search showed these are the conclusions:
1. Very good card according to tests and benchmarks.
2. Quite expensive - Asus offers a few extras and good quality - compatibillity with all the Rams in the industry.
3. Some "parts" of that ASUS released (I mean a number of these cards) have some problems (as reported for example the pc reboots by itself continually)
4. Good overclocking options
5. Until yesterday I was with the money in my hands to buy it.
6. The same day, the moment I was in the shop, 2 guys brought the cards back for repair or replacement.
7. After all these (although I adore ASUS), I finally bought QDI Synactix 815EP, with the same features, (cheapest - reliable).
Wish you luck
stark (please give me reports of how you are going with this card)
Looks like i may have 1 of those"Replace" ones I still get the error message on a blue screen boot-up " Audio PCI inactive" and tells me system has rerouted it....and use automatic settings in device manager( it has those settings) Cant wait to see what it does with a USR 56k V.90 Modem(0677 model)........if this keeps giving me "Fits"...ill take it back and exchange it...any suggestions for a comparable board( i have used Aopen and Abit before) just not in a socket 370 flavor...let me know whatya think...Thanks.
thanks for the response.........looks like you got a good one......doesnt seem like i did ! If i cant get it to work SOON......it goes back to retailer and ill pick another comparable M/B.......any suggestion for a replacement(370 socket) Thanks.
It could be a windows/driver issue. Try setting your bios to PNP OS-NO to force BIOS to set up your cards. Also, it could be a memory problem-if the first solution doesn't work, try lowering you memory timings. It could also be that you used a crappy modem-I have had fits with certain modems in ALL machines (and I have set up enough machines to know when to blame the modem, 1000+ so far). I wouldn't give up on the board just yet-it is the best current motherboard available, and it is doubtfully the cause of you problem, unless it is defective. I have used almost every card I own in mine without a problem, and I have 14 devices sharing one IRQ and still stable!
Crashman.......i have tried setting up bios as no OS pnp.....it makes no difference......memory timings are at default(256 micron cas 2)The modem im using works fine ,even in my other machine as does the sound card..it is either defective or the 815 chipset hasnt gotten all the "Bug" out and asus website isnt what it should be ..soooo looks like this one may get replaced with another socket 370 m/b...any suggestions ?
I would suggest going to the CUSL2 WITHOUT the onbaord features. This board is more stable than the cheaper -C counterpart. You will have no problems using either your sound or modem boards in it. What's more it will outperform the -C by at least 4% (depending on your cards).
YOu may also have a defective unit. The best boards for your CPU are all 815E motherboards. Tom did a comparison a while back that you could still look into. Or you could go to the old BX chipset and push it to 133, but I think you probably have a bad board. If it does have onboard audio, make sure it is disabled. And check out www.cusl2.com to see if anyone has ever heard of this problem. It's probably a defective board.
After trying to fix it and looking every where, including CUSL2.com.......no luck.......at this point...it goes back to retailer who is local....and many thanks to all who replied.
OK.......so i took back m/b #2(it also was defective) and now i have #3...seems to be working just fine....and all is well......cept i haveta go find drivers for pci usr model 0637 or model 0766....soooo moral of story is......ifya get a good one from the start......your LUCKY
