Our users really like the push email feature of the BlackBerry. I understand
the Treo offers some variant on push email service. How well does it work?
Can BlackBerry junkies really be satisfied with the Treo 600? TIA.

I have had it for about a week now and here are the major problems
with it and the push system it has. One is that the push does take a
lot of battery power and it isn't necessarily a backgrond type service
like the BBs. A little application will popup about every 5 minutes
or so saying that it is syncing email. The other problem is that
there is no way to turn this off without turning off the wireless.
Both of these problem are tollerable though. My main pet-peeve with
this is that there is no way to turn off the sound for the new email
notification and still have the phone ringer turned on. You either
have to have turn the volume off/on switch to off or turn off the
wireless funciton off altogether. Even with the volume off, it will
still vibrate and there is no way to turn that off thus taking battery
power. They use software from a company called intellisync which
syncs the data onto a web type portal and then pushes to the phone.
You can access this portal from anywhere. There are options on the
web portal to control some of the push functionality but they are all
greyed out so I'm not sure what they are really for. I'm using the
desktop version of the sync software. I'm not sure if they have an
enterprise or server version like Blackberry does.

On the plus side, it is much easier to talk on the phone (includes
speakerphone) than the BB. It syncs all contact, calendar, task, and
email data whereas currently BB only syncs email and calendar (though
the new server is supposed to sync all). Plus there are thousands of
third party applications and the programs run 100 times faster than on
a BB.

I have emailed my Verizon contact to see if he can find some solution
to my email notification problem but other than that I would say the
phone is great.
