I am about to purchase a barebones system.I have the choice of a k7v motherboard or a a7v motherboard.One is a socket A,the other a slot A.
Which should I go with and why ?
Is a socket A or Slot A better than the other in some way ?

socket A for sure! Slot A athlons are 1. older and slower, and 2. harder to come by, therefore more expensive.

Socket A is a no-brainer

Thanks thats a start.
How about power- does one need more than the other ?
How about t-birds ?The k7v doesnt support them right ?

Just use a 300watt power supply. (Actually I have a 250watt box with a Tbird 1.2 @ 1266mhz and GeForce2 Ultra with no problems..but just go with 300). And yeah, the K7V supports the Tbirds, of course. In fact, you might want to get a K7VA, it supports 133mhz FSB.

Just my ¢2. I see it again, about a PSU on Thunderbirds:
it looks like a 250W is enough, if the power supply is good.
And somebody posted previously that a 300W didn't work.
