Now I have dual boot XP PRO SP2 and Vista Ultimate x32. Every OS has it's own partition, and there's 1 more partition for storing data.
I would like to replace vista with 7 ( leaving xp and data intact ).
Can I do it straigtforward or do I have to edit boot loader or perhaps to re-partition entire HDD?
I worry about losing data on that 3rd partition.

Solution
No need to worry, use the Windows 7 32 bit upgrade eddition and run from Vista.
The 3rd partition will not be effected. XP dual boot will not be effected.

I agree, there should be no problem. However it never hurts to do a backup if you have an external as a just in case should anything go wrong. And of course just keep an eye on the settings you choose when upgrading

The first 2 replies are correct. Running an in-place upgrade of Vista to Windows 7 will not affect the backup partition, nor will it affect the XP partition. The boot loader should be ok as well, as the entry for Vista will simply be replaced by an entry for 7.
