hi all, im newbie so please bear with me, i have an older intel 440 bx board (circa '98), bios for it state: 4s4eb0x1.10a, which is an intel se440bx mb manufactured for dell (yes i bought from dell but it was a long time ago!). i want to upgrade the cpu to p3@700 or better, i was rather discouraged after doing some homework it seemed those are only fit for p2's, after reading mb guide here i got my hopes up again tho. theoretically all 440bx boards should support most p3's with some modifications, fine. heres where my trouble starts, dell site has a bios update but no specs with it so i dont know if its what i need (any way to find out? anyone know from their own experience?) also im a little hazy on how to change voltage, ive read all i could find on the matter here and on firingsquad but a specific answer on this case would help. anything else i should consider? thanx all.

goto the dell talk at the dell support site, they are good helpers there.

bah, of course ive done that, and no, they dont know jack. e.g. first guy i talked to told me flat and confident that 440bx will not support any cpu beyond p2@450. since i knew it wasnt true i went to the next guy, who told me with the same patronizing confidence bordering on idiocy that, in fact, any 440bx will support any p2 or p3 cpu without any modifications. by this time i was fresh out patience.

SE440BX supports up to PII 450.
SE440BX2 supports up to PIII 850.
Upgrade the mainboard and the processor. I think you'll be happier that way...
